posted on 2014-02-13, 00:00 authored by Kelly O’Brien, Ruth HolstLibrarians who work in health sciences libraries are faced with new challenges on a daily basis. Concerns about the cost and quality of health care, complexities of health-related research, and new methods for health workforce training and education are all having an effect on the way health educators, researchers and practitioners seek and use information. Librarians are looking for new ways to address these challenges and to articulate how their expertise can be applied to solving problems and removing barriers to the access, organization, retrieval, and filtering of health information in a variety of settings.
The University of Illinois at Chicago Library of the Health Sciences is sponsoring a “Health Information Practice Summit” during the Midwest Chapter/MLA meeting in Peoria, IL on October 7, 2013. The purpose of the Summit is to gather all types of health sciences librarians together to discuss the changes taking place in our respective environments and to exchange stories about what health sciences librarians in the Midwest are doing to address the challenges confronting them.
