William’s brothers were Mathew, Glamor (awarded the Military Medal), and Palencio. Palencio enlisted in Darwin on 20 September 1915 and was discharged from the army on 16 May 1916. He also had a sister, Maria. At birth he was registered as Guillermo Gah, 2 December 1892, the son of Mary Anne Bunion (sic) Byunyan and Carlos Gah.,
History
Garr was a member of the Fifth Contingent which departed Darwin on 16 August 1915 on board the 'Eastern'. His unit embarked from Brisbane on board HMAT A69 'Warilda' on 5 October 1915. On 29 Feb 1916, Garr was transferred to the 49th Battalion and on 16 March 1916, he was transferred to 4th Pioneer Battalion. He was killed in action in France on 30 November 1916.,
