A number of different techniques have been proposed for the treatment of teeth with bad prognosis (hopeless teeth). Implant placement in combination with bone grafts and guide bone regeneration are among the most important techniques. Mantzikos and Shamus proposed the implant site development by means of orthodontic extrusion. The forced eruption technique was developed by Ingber for the treatment of one-wall and two-wall bony pockets that were difficult to treat with periodontal therapy alone.
