Summary:The book critically and concisely reviews current basic science data on the bladder and prostate, as well as the way in which the function of both is altered in benign prostatic hyperplasia to cause bladder outflow obstruction. The text is in two parts: the first deals with the basic science aspects, and the second provides a review of the reasons for prostatectomy and the safety of this procedure. Additionally, there is an examination of the recent literature on pharmaco-therapy of the prostate and some of the contemporary techniques used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. The particular combination of clinical practice with those basic sciences applicable to clinical practice provides a clear and useful overview of the subject matter.
