    • Summary:Drawings and descriptions of the antiquities of Suffolk, in three volumes, by Isaac Johnson (1754-1835). The drawings, executed in pen and black ink and gray wash, depict churches, castles, gateways, ruins, fonts, screens, and armorial devices. Volumes 1 and 2 begin with full-page maps "exhibiting the site of the various objects comprised in this collection." Descriptive text is written in a neat copperplate hand. The volumes were produced speculatively and left unsold at Johnson's death (see DNB). Volume 3 includes contributions by Harriet Churchyard, Emma Churchyard, and Mrs. Mary Ann Rowley. Content is generally drawn and written on rectos only. Pages bear between one and eight drawings, each drawing accompanied by descriptive text. Some of the drawings are also accompanied by small maps, contextualizing the subject. An alphabetical index to all three volumes is provided at the end of volume 3.
The volumes are supplemented by letters, concerning the present manuscripts, by or to Francis Capper Brooke, Harriet and Emma Churchyard, Mary Ann Rowley, Cornelius Welton, and Charles Golding.
