Notes:An endorsement card for a slate of candidates. Originally printed with a playing-card image on one side, it was re-purposed by printing the political message and the slate of names on the other side.
The playing-card side of the card displays the four of diamonds.
When the colonial New York Assembly was unable to muster enough votes to send a delegation to the first Continental Congress, the New York City Committee of Correspondence nominated a slate of five men as delegates, the slate was approved by popular vote in New York and other counties, and the five men participated in the Congress.
