Opera Australia invite you to join them for a riveting production of Verdi's La Traviata in a superb mise en scène by Francesca Zambello, which brings the fashion of 1880s Paris to meet the extravagance of metropolitan Australia in the middle of Mardi Gras festivities. Onstage, we have the great fortune of spending time with star soprano Emma Matthews in the role of Violetta Valery, a popular courtesan who falls in love with the well-bred Alfredo Germont (a brilliant Gianluca Terranova). But Alfredo's father Giorgio, played by the excellent Jonathan Summers, has a vested interest in controlling the romantic liaisons of his son and heir, and does not approve of their entanglement... The pitch-perfect melodrama is adapted from La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas.
