    • Biographical / Historical note:From a note by Horace Walpole on front flyleaf: Thomas Martin, an attorney and antiquary, married the widow of Peter Le Neve, Norroy King of Arms and antiquary and gained possession of this manuscript.

    • Summary:A manuscript mostly in one hand includes drawings of antiquities, historic sites, architectural details, coins, religious reliquaries, and coats of arms as well as copies of old records, including three wills of Bacons of Hesset who were Horace Walpole's ancestors, facsimiles of royal signatures. The illustrations are meticulously drawn and depict a wide range of antiquities, including pots, tools, weaponry, sepulchral monuments, stained glass, carvings and paintings on buildings and stained glass windows. Most of the drawings and in brown ink, but a number have been highlighted with some watercolor or wash and some graphite; occasional drawings by other hands mounted or tipped in. Several fragments laid in, including a partial index.
