    • Summary:Nathaniel Wyeth hires Joseph Thing to take charge of a fur-trading expedition in the West. Thing's engagement was later extended two years. Returning to Boston via Cape Horn, Thing's ship is caught in a storm and had to stop at Rio de Janeiro for repairs. His letter to W. Tucker and Sons gives details of the damage suffered.
