Biographical / Historical note:African-American women's organization, founded on 12 March 1900 in New Haven, Connecticut, when eighteen members elected officers, including Mrs. John Ross, Jr., President; Mrs. W. B. Johnson, Vice President; Mrs. Carrie Hickman and Mrs. Eugene Henderson, Secretaries; and Mrs. Ann S. Kinner, Treasurer. The club met weekly to discuss works by and about African-Americans and to plan community activities.
