    • Summary:Manuscript, probably a fair copy, of an unpublished epistolary novel of manners. An introduction to the first volume explains that that volume contains "little else than conversations...supposed to have passed between a select party of friends assembled at the Castle of St. Cyr; let not the reader of novels expect a tale of interest of the lover of improbable fiction expect a romance. Sentiments, & opinions, for the most part having some reference to a wished-for amelioration of the female character, are what my readers or to look for in the Annals of the Castle." Volume 2 also contains "Supplement to the Annals of the Castle of St. Cyr consisting of letters between Marianne, Duchess de Roseville and Julia, Marchioness de St. Cyr 1798." Postscript apologizing for the abrupt ending but notes that author cannot take up a "threat that has been broken off for twenty six years."
