    • Biographical / Historical note:Francis John Baker was born August 10, 1869, in Somerset, England. A corn merchant by trade, he joined the 48th North Somerset Imperial Yeomanry, arriving in South Africa in 1901. Lance Corporal Baker was honorably discharged in 1902.
    • Summary:The collection comprises a manuscript diary covering the years 1901-1902, written in 1912 from notes taken during that time period.
