Fortunately,this gas absorbs very strongly the 10.6μ m P branch of CO2 laser beam, so that the trace detection under ppb will be easily performed by the laser photo-acoustic method. This suggests the decomposed products yielded by SF6 gas discharge should absorb some vibrational-rotational lines of the laser four branches. Really we observed a new absorption spectra within the 9.6 μm P branch resulted from the decomposed molecules after 2 hours lHz-pulsed discharge. It is, however, rather difficult to determine what kind of molecules contribute to the new absorption, since some of the decomposed gases, such as SF2O2 and SF2O, have not been studied spectroscopically. The rough estimation of the vibrational frequency of them was tried to clear the contribution to it. The decomposed products were also analysed by gas-chromatography as a function of time decay for the new signal after the discharge.
