| 内容記述 | The Jesuit-promoted Tensho Mission to Rome (1582-1590), which was Japan's first official European experience, made two long pauses at Macao on its way out and back. In Macao the Mission witnessed the prosperous East-West exchanges and heard the sad news of Christian Banning in Japan; also in Macao Father Alessandro Valignano organized the writing and translation of The Mission Members' Conversations, which expressed the heated debate over the Jesuit activities in Japan and the current discussion of the different civilizations of Japan, China and the West. In fact，the Mission was directly caused by a quarrel over the Nagasaki-Macao silk trade, which had been a major financial support to the Japanese Church; on the other hand, the Western printing machine and techniques brought to Japan by the Mission via Macao would greatly influence the development of civilization in Japan and the whole East Asia. | |||||
