Libertad, amor y verdad en la teoría de la acción de Harry Frankfurt

Abstract

Harry Frankfurt is considered one of the leading exponents of moral psychology of our time. This recognition is evident especially in the academic field of analytic philosophy, which has been developed in the Anglo world. Since the late sixties, Frankfurt has been devoted to study the actions of the person. His most fruitful work is related to two ideas about the will of the agent. The first proposal of Frankfurt is the assertion of a hierarchy of desires, which structures the will of the person. The second one is an indication that love is a determinant of human action. Harry Frankfurt explains that love is able to configure the structure of the will of the agent and, therefore, their motives. In the dissertation I analyze the effectiveness of Frankfurt’s ideas related to love in explaining the motivation of human action.

Harry Frankfurt es considerado uno de los principales exponentes de la psicología moral de nuestro tiempo. Este reconocimiento se ha dado especialmente en el ámbito académico de la filosofía analítica, que se ha desarrollado en el mundo anglosajón. Desde finales de los años sesenta, Frankfurt se ha dedicado a estudiar las acciones de la persona. Su trabajo más fructífero guarda relación con dos ideas sobre la voluntad del agente. La primera propuesta de Frankfurt es la afirmación de una jerarquía de los deseos, que estructura la voluntad de la persona. La segunda es la indicación de que el amor es un factor determinante de la acción humana. Frankfurt explica que el amor es capaz de configurar la estructura de la voluntad del agente y, por tanto, sus motivos. En la tesis analizo la efectividad de las ideas de Frankfurt relacionadas con el amor, en la explicación de la motivación de las acciones humanas.
