Cp-2*MoCl2 (CP* = C5Me5) is obtained via reaction of MoCl5 with a mixture of Cp*K and NaBH4 followed by treatment with CHCl3. Cp-2*MoCl2 provides access to a large variety of other permethylmolybdenocene complexes which include Cp-2*MoH2, Cp-2*MoMe2, Cp-2*MoCO, Cp-2*MoO, Cp-2*;Mo(Me)Cl, Cp-2*Mo(H)I, Cp-2*Mo(EPh)H (E = S, Se, Te), Cp-2*Mo(eta(2)-E-2) (E = S, Se, Te), Cp-2*Mo(eta(2)-E-4) (E = S, Se), Cp-2*Mo(OSiMe3)CN, Cp-2*Mo(NCS)(2), and Cp-2*Mo(N-3)(2).
