A low-power variable length decoder which exploits the statistics of successive codewords is presented. The decoder employs a small look-up table working as a fixed cache to reduce the number of activations of a variable length code detector, a here most power is consumed. The power simulation results estimated with Powermill show a 35% average reduction in energy compared with that of the previous low-power scheme.
