Structural building code for Nepal

This project formulates and introduces the structural aspects of a model Building Code for Nepal. There is as yet no standard of construction, and no building codes or norms, adopted in Nepal. The most economical construction material Nepal is clay bricks, and the most popular type of construction is load-bearing masonry. This project, therefore, basically deals with the masonry section of the structural building code, and is meant principally for Kathmandu Valley. An attempt is also made to improve the existing method of load-bearing wall construction by introducing reinforced brick masonry and reinforced grouted brick masonry design. Nepal also lies in an earthquake zone. Seismic considerations in the design of buildings are therefore of utmost importance. An attempt has been made to collect the maximum amount of available design information that can be safely adopted in Nepal.
