Playing for success: Evaluation of a school-based prevention program

This thesis serves to evaluate the effectiveness of the Playing for Success (PFS) program used at a local elementary school with kindergarteners in an attempt to promote school adjustment and readiness. This program was designed to aid students in kindergarten with moderate school adjustment difficulties. This evaluation is being conducted to identify possible process defects in design and/or implementation, provide information for program decisions, and judge procedural events and activities; and to collect descriptions and judgment outcomes and relate them to objectives, input, and process of the program and determine its significance in affecting school adjustment. The results showed that program participants made gains in all areas. However, the students who qualified to receive services but did not participate in PFS actually had greater gains in all areas of adjustment than those who pmiicipated. However, there are limitations that contribute to this which are discussed in Chapter 5.
