Latino grassroots community organizing in Humboldt County

This manuscript examines the concerns of the local Latino community in Humboldt County, California, through the lens of grassroots community organizing. True North Organizing Network (TNON) utilizes the PICO model (People Improving Communities through Organizing) which has historically mobilized minorities to gain equal rights. The local Latino community faces magnitudes of adversity ranging from political battles, work-related discrimination, to systemic oppression. The methods utilized for this research are a methodological triangulation of data acquired through participant observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The data collected resulted in the majority of the participants expressing a positive connection with TNON. Documenting the unique level of grassroots organizing currently taking place in the North Coast of California is crucial in supporting and developing leadership roles in the Latino community.
