Resumen:	229 local populatlons of maize were collected on the Northern part of Spain. Evaluation and characterisation, wlth the use of 18 traits was carried out during two years of trials. With the use of 9 traits showing low interaction with the environment, numerical taxonomy was appHed, resulting in 15 different taxons. Description of the main 8 ones 15 presented. Discrimlnant analysis was applied and traits related with the ear and flowerlnq showed to be the most lmportant, derived from the human selection for adaptation to the different areas.
