ResumenApproximately, the 19% of global human deaths are related to cardiovascular disease (CD) and an increase of 20% is expected in the incoming years. Hyperglycaemia is a risk factor in the development of type-2 diabetes and CD. Therefore, there is a current need for development therapies against these pathologies. Grape pomace extract (GPE) is a natural source of bioactive compounds, mainly polyphenols and dietary fiber, which have shown a wide variety of biological activities. Several recent scientific studies have suggested that polyphenols may play a role in the regulation of glucose metabolism. Also, polyphenols are considered the main responsible for the beneficial effects derived from moderate consumption of wine in relation to CD. Currently we are involved in the INGRAPE study in collaboration with medical professionals and recruitment from community health centers primary care.
