Proyectos EDI y normalización documental

Abstract

[ES] Los sistemas EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) están concebidos principalmente para ser utilizados dentro del mundo de las transacciones comerciales. Ahora bien, por sus características técnicas y circunstancias~ estratégicas, provocan también el interés de los profesionales de la Información y Documentación. En este articulo se describen las principales características de los sistemas EDI: sus prestaciones, las infraestructuras tecnológicas que utilizan y también sus condicionantes. Se analiza cuál es la implantación de EDI en el mercado europeo. Se examinan las características de las normas EDIFACT (Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce and Transport), 0DA:ODIF (OEfice Document Architecture/Of- Ece Docnment Interchange Format) y FORMEX (FORMalized EXchange of electronic publications), así como los problemas que plantean estos formatos en relación con las técnicas de normalización documental. Se pasa revista a alg~nosd e los principales proyectos europeos en curso, dentro del campo bibliotecario v documental., q.u e tienen cierta relación con el Intercambio Electrónico de Datos.

[EN] EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) systems have been mainly conceived to be used within the world of commercial transactions. Owing to their technical characteristics and circumstances, however, they also arouse the interest of Information Science professionals. This paper describes the main features of tbe EDI systems: their assets, the technological infrastructure that they use and their conditioning factors as well. EDI's presence in the European markzt is studied. The characteristics of EDIFACT (Electronic - L ~~~ tionsj and FORMEX ( ~ 0 ~ ~ a l iEzXechda nge of electrouic publications) standards are examined as weli as the problems posed by these formats as regards document standardization techniques. An overview is given of some of the main ongoing European projects within the Library and Information Science field which are reiated to Electronic Data Interchange.
