| Description: | Behind 6 Salem Street, Reading, MA, 01867 "Dedicated October 5 1865, this monument was erected in accordance with the will of Abiel Holden 'to commemorate the deeds and perpetuate the memories of the soldiers of Reading who have been killed in battle or otherwise, or died from disease contracted, or wounds received, while in the service of the United States...'. Mr. Holden bequeated $500 to the town and requested that the town raise another $500, and with the $1000 'shall erect a shaft of Italian marble'.
