Keywords: | Coins;Datasets |
Issue Date: | 10-Jun-2016 |
Publisher: | Memphis, Tenn. : Art Department, Rhodes College |
Abstract: | This dataset is an excel spreadsheet that contains metadata describing 116 coins in the Auben Gray Burkhart Coin Collection, which housed in the Rhodes College Special Collections. The metadata data here is expressed in Numismatic Database Standard (NUDS) fields listed by Sebastian Heath on nomisma.org. NUDS (which is called "Numismatic Description Standard" since it is not technically a database schema) is an ontology applied to numismatic metadata, influenced by existing metadata standards like EAD, METS, and VRA Core, but also largely reliant on linked open data philosophies. This dataset includes the following fields: general description, coin shape, axis, chemical analysis, obverse and reverse countermarks, condition, grade, obverse and reverse wear, obverse and reverse completeness, weight, widest and narrowest width, thickness, object type, coin type, denomination, material, chemical composition, manufacture type, dates, authority, issuer, mint, region, findspot, find type, text transcription, portrait identification, diety identificaiton, myths/event identification, bibliography, and comparanda. |
Description: | This dataset was compiled by students in Dr. Miriam Clinton's spring 2016 class. It was cleaned-up and uploaded to DLynx by the Visual Resources Center in summer 2016. |
