We analyse the importance of the role of the media in the development of the motor competence in girls and their motivation towards sports. The media give us an androcentric vision of the sporting event. This perspective transmits to the female students the message that they are not (and they will not be) included in the field of high-level sport (field in which they can find a way to develop their motor competence). In fact, this situation is considered as one of the reasons that influences on the fact that, in most of the cases, the female students are who, in contrast to the male students, seem to practice sport mainly due to aesthetics and/or health, but not due to competition or sports development at a certain level. In addition, they appear to have much more negative self-esteem and physical self-concept.
