Historical records attest to the presence of several cemetery areas used from the Middle Ages to the modern age by the communities that lived within the village and in the Nonantola territory. The consistent data concerning the cemetery of S. Lorenzo church identify it as a burial area reserved for the Nonantola lay community. Archaeological investigations conducted in 2004-2005 unearthed a sector of the cemetery area and the identification of 182 burials. The burials identified during the last excavation campaign in 2015 (a total of 38) have confirmed the finding regarding the high percentage of sub-adults.
