Abstract

Léo Belmonte, a fictional character featured in Marguerite Yourcenar's novel "Un homme obscur", is strikingly reminiscent of Spinoza. This paper provides a thoroughgoing investigation of the Spinozistic elements that can be detected in Belmonte and in this novel in general.
