Die Idealisten aus Ottakring: Fritz Saxl und die Kunstgeschichte am Volksheim Ottakring in Wien bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg

The article examines how art history subjects were taught at the Volksheim Ottakring during the years immediately preceding the First World War. The Volksheim was a kind of popular university, modelled on the example of the English University Extensions, which was distinguished by the scientific character of its educational offerings and the prestige of its lecturers. In particular, on the basis of an unpublished archival survey, the activities of Fritz Saxl at the institution are reconstructed.
