A liderança numa organização terrorista: a Al-Qaeda como estudo de caso

Abstract

O terrorismo é um tema em desenvolvimento ao nível da investigação académica por ser bastante actual. Pode ser analisado e interpretado segundo perspectivas distintas, em situações diversas, sendo influenciado por vários factores que o sustentam, como é o caso da liderança. Esta dissertação incide sobre a liderança numa organização terrorista, neste caso, na Al-Qaeda. São abordados os conceitos de terrorismo e de liderança, seguidos da fundamentação das abordagens organizacionais da liderança. É explorada e examinada a estrutura organizacional da Al-Qaeda, aliando esse conhecimento, à análise e identificação dos líderes das células e dos grupos associados à Al-Qaeda, dispersos pelo mundo.

Terrorism is a very current topic and so, it is in development at the academical research level. Terrorism can be analised and interpreted from distinct perspectives in diverse situations, being influenced by several factors that sustain it, as is the case of leadership. This dissertation focuses on leadership in a terrorist organization, in the specific case of Al-Qaeda. The concepts of terrorism and leadership are addressed, followed by the organizational approaches to leadership. The organizational structure of Al-Qaeda is explored and examined in line with the analysis and identification of the cell leaders and the groups associated with Al-Qaeda dispersed throughout the world.
