Iveson Lewis Brookes (1793-1865) was a Baptist pastor and plantation owner in Georgia. His son, W.J. Brookes, attended Columbian College in Washington, D.C.
Collection Overview
This collection mainly contains letters from Luther Rice (1783-1836) asking for subscriptions to the Latter Day Luminary and for the support of Baptist institution Columbian College in Washington, D.C., now part of George Washington University. Also included are letters from his son W.J. Brookes concerning student life at Columbian College and the management of a Jasper County, Georgia, plantation. Other correspondents include Basil Manly, Sr. (1798-1868), William Ruggles (1797-1877), and Stephen Chapin (1778-1845).
