The experiences of occupational therapists using interpreters
journal contribution
posted on 2014-06-30, 08:47 authored by Eileen Mooney, Judith PettigrewIreland has experienced unprecedented inward migration in recent times.
According to the National Consultative Committee on Racism and
Interculturalism (NCCRI 2008), 200 languages are now spoken in Ireland.
The 2006 Census showed Ireland as having the fastest growing population
in the European Union, with 420,000 foreign-born people living in Ireland
making up 10.4% of the population (CSO 2007). The current recession will
probably affect levels of inward migration, but many migrants will remain,
and issues of multiculturalism and integration will continue to be of
significance in Ireland (Mac Einrí 2008).
