This study focuses itself on understanding how the Portuguese political parties who were part of the government (PSD, CDS and PS) used the internet during the electoral campaign for the legislative elections in 2015. This working paper begins with a theoretical foundation which is the base of the empirical study that follows. The theoretical part talks about themes such as politics, communication, society, marketing, and the internet. The empirical study, which is the second part of this working paper, is divided in two parts: gathering of information through the analysis of the online platforms that the political parties created and the application and analysis of a survey. It was revealed that the political parties we studied created many platforms on the internet just for the electoral campaign of the already mentioned elections. However, most of the respondents used only one of the available platforms, the Facebook, to keep up with the political parties. It is undeniable that this social networking service was the most used device by the people, but only to keep up with the political parties, since only a few declared to have left commentaries or interacted with other people or with the political parties.
