사이버대학교와 학습자의 지리적 분포 및 교육 특성에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 우리 나라 사이버대학교를 대상으로 발달과정과 학습자들의 특성에 대해 살펴 보았으며, 학습자들이 사이버대학교를 선택하는 배경과 정보화의 영향에 따른 학습자들의 학습 행동의 변화에 대해 살피는 것을 목적으로 한다. 사이버대학과 학습자의 지역별 특성을 살펴 본 결과, 사이버대학이 서울에 위치한 경우는 학습자들의 수도권 집중현상이 뚜렷하며, 지방에 있는 대학은 각 지역의 특성을 살린 전공으로서 대부분 지방 학습자를 확보하고 있다. 사이버대학 학습자들은 다양한 연력 및 학력, 직업을 구성하고 있지만, 20, 30대의 연령층과 고등학교 졸업학력, 사무직에 종사하는 학습자들이 대부분을 차지하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 사이버대학을 다니는 학습자들의 시간과 공간의 활용 및 학습 행동 변화에 대해서 살펴 본 결과, 학습자들이 보충 학습 모임이나 동호회 및 정보교류의 목적으로 모이는 것은 사이버교육을 받고 있으면서 사이버 공간에서 모든 활동을 해결할 것으로 기대했던 것과 달리 오프라인 모임에 대한 필요성도 절실히 느끼고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

In this study, I discuss the main factors that encourage students to engage in cyber education. I also examine the changing trend in learning behaviors as a result of the Information Age. Cyber universities and their students have unique geographical characteristics and university organizations and consortia show distinctive differences according to their geographic location. Students who enroll in the cyber universities located in the capital dty of Seoul tend to live in the metropolitan area. Students at local cyber universities are local residents who major in subjects directly related to local economies. In ddition, an analysis of the surveys and interviews reveals that a practical cross-registration system among cyber universities has not yet been implemented. Most students at cyber universities are working toward a degree. An analysis of leaming behaviors and the use of time and space suggest that most students take part in additional off-line activities to fulfill knowledge defidendes and engage in information sharing. Students who expected that cyber education would meet their educational needs are not satisfied and, s a result, they prefer to take part in off-line activities like small group meetings. Thus, my study implies that cyber education has not completely overcome geographical constraints.
