Um caminho a percorrer : da linguagem oral à linguagem escrita

Abstract

Antes da aprendizagem formal da leitura e da escrita a criança possui um conjunto de competências, conhecimentos e atitudes, denominados por literacia emergente, que se pressupõe serem precursores do desenvolvimento da leitura e da escrita. No contexto desta problemática surge este estudo longitudinal, de natureza correlacional, tendo como objetivo geral estudar a associação entre variáveis do desenvolvimento da criança e historial familiar, linguagem da criança no final da idade pré-escolar e a aprendizagem da leitura e escrita ao longo do 1.º ano do 1.º ciclo. A linguagem oral da amostra de crianças foi avaliada, no final do pré-escolar, através do Teste de Identificação de Competências Linguísticas (TICL) (Viana, 2004). Posteriormente recolheram-se dados da avaliação escolar da leitura e escrita ao longo do 1.º ano de escolaridade, e foi avaliada a fluência da leitura de textos (Velocidade, Correção e Compreensão) no final do 1.º ano. Foi ainda aplicado um Questionário aos Pais. Os resultados são apresentados e discutidos. Entre outras, algumas conclusões mais relevantes vão no sentido de que, na amostra estudada, as competências linguísticas na idade pré-escolar estão associadas com a aprendizagem da leitura (talvez menos com a escrita), tal como avaliada ao longo do 1.º ano (1.º, 2.º e 3.º trimestre) pelas professoras, e com a fluência da leitura de textos no final do ano; a associação da aquisição da leitura com a Reflexão sobre a língua assume maior relevância nos primeiros meses de aprendizagem da descodificação, e a associação com a Memória Auditiva destaca-se nos meses subsequentes; por fim, salienta-se a associação da fluência da leitura de textos no final do 1.º ano com o Conhecimento Morfo-Sintático do pré-escolar.

Previously to formal learning of reading and writing, the child possesses several competences, knowledge and attitudes, named emergent literacy, which are assumed to be at the origin of the development of reading and writing. In this context, arises this longitudinal study of correlative nature, which main objective is the study of the association between variables concerning the development of the child and its family background, as well as the child language at the end of kindergarten age and the learning process of reading and writing throughout elementary school. The oral language of a sample of children was assessed at the end of kindergarten by the Identification Test of Linguistic Competences (TICL) (Viana, 2004). Afterwards, school grades regarding reading and writing throughout the first school year was collected and the fluency in text reading was measured (Speed, Accuracy and Comprehension) at the end of the first year. Also, it was applied a questionnaire to the parents. The results were presented and discussed. Among several conclusions, for the sample studied, linguistic competences in kindergarten age are associated with the learning of reading (rather than the learning of writing) evaluated by the teachers throughout the first year (1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester), and with the text reading fluency at the end of the year; the association of reading acquisition and reflexion about language assumes greater relevance in the first months when decoding is a main task, and the association with auditory memory arises in the following months. Finally, the association of text reading fluency at the end of the first year with the morpho-sintatic knowledge at the kindergarten is significant, also.
