Francisco de Salzedo devotional book
Overview
Devotional book kept and in part written by Francisco de Salzedo. The first part is titled "Cartilla de la doctrina religiosa" and includes at the end a parallel between the canonical hours and the hours of Christ's passion; a Latin poem beginning "Matutina ligat Christum"; and the meaning of the Mass. The second part, entitled "Consejos y documentos espirituales pertenecientes & la Mystica Theologia" by Pedo de la Piftuela contains 7 tracts on prayer, meditation, and the amorous union with God, and a poem beginning : "Alma si quieres llegar ..." by a missionary to China.

1 volume : Binding: Contemporary simple blind-ruled dark leather; Loop and ball clasps. Foliation: Pages [i-x] 1-109 [110]. Collation: pi^5 A-C^10 D-E^12 [F1]. Ornamentation: The title-pages (pages v, 83) are in black and red, with rope border, knotted letters, hands, asterisks. A few pen-ornaments elsewhere. Script is cursive, italic, some ornamented initials. Holograph is from a single person. Red contemporary margin-headings in the first half of the volume ("Cartilla de la doctrina religiosa"). Paper support. Mixed watermarks. ; Volume measures no taller than 20 cm.

page v "Cartilla do la doctrina religiossa. Dispuesta por vno de la Compañia de Jesus: para doe niñas, hijas espirituales suyas, que se crian para Monj as, y desean serlo con toda perfeccion. Sacala à luz, en obsequio de las llamadas à la religion, y para alivio de las maestras, que las inatruyen: el lic.do Francisco de Salzedo primer capellan de las Senoras Religiossas de Sant Theresa, en su Convento de Sr San Joseph de eata corte, y prefecto de la. Purissima. Dedicada a las dos niñas para cuio provecho, y direccion principalmente se dispuso. Y por no hallarla impresses el dia de oy, y agradar au docta doctrina a vn Religioaso, la traslado, fielmente, do su original con quien concuerda. Año de 1744."
