Abstract:
Dieser Text wurde für die Bundeszentrale für Politische Bildung (bpb) verfasst. Er stellt in stark geraffter Thesenform dar, dass und warum die gegen Indexfonds gerichteten Vorwürfe haltlos sind: Indexfonds sind keine Hungermacher. Die im letzten Jahrzehnt zu beobachtenden starken Preissteigerungen für Agrarrohstoffe hatten primär realwirtschaftliche, nicht finanzwirtschaftliche Ursachen. Die sorgenvolle Warnung vor der Agrarspekulation durch Indexfonds muss deshalb als Fehl-Alarm eingestuft werden.

This text was written for the “Bundeszentrale für Politische Bildung (bpb)“, the „Federal Agency for Civic Education“ in Germany. It contains in short form an explanation why the accusations against index funds are untenable: Index funds are not hungermakers. The strong price increases for agricultural commodities that could be observed during the last decade were primarily caused by real economy factors, not by financialization. Anxious Warnings against agricultural speculation by index funds therefore must be regarded as a false alarm.
