Resumo
Tendo como limite temporal inferior o ano de 1864, este artigo trata o desenvolvimento da entidade “Sociedade Bíblica” em Portugal desde esse momento, quase fundador, com a sua institucionalização de facto, até aos nossos dias. É equacionado esse momento de nascimento da instituição, abordando o contexto que levou a essa alteração: a consciência de que havia amadurecido em Portugal o clima de liberdades religiosas e, naturalmente, a evidência e propositada intenção de alguns dos actores protestantes britânicos no terreno desenvolverem a missionação.
Having as a limit in time before 1864, this article deals with the development of the entity “Sociedade Bíblica” (Bible Society) in Portugal since this moment, almost established, with its institutionalization in practice, up to the present. This moment of the birth of the institution is presented, considering the context which caused this alteration: the consciousness that the climate of religious liberty in Portugal had ripened and, naturally, the evidence of the proposed intention of some of the British protestant personnel involved in this area of the development of the missionary work.
