Comportamento e relações intergrupais: a relação entre contacto e preconceito numa amostra de estudantes universitários

A pertença aos grupos sociais reflete-se a todos os aspetos da nossa vida cotidiana, das mais básicas às mais complexas formas de relacionamento intergrupal, quer seja na escola, no trabalho, na vida pessoal, todos passamos por este processo. Com a diversificação de grupos nasce também diversificação de normas, crenças e valores e consequentemente atitudes. Dado à realidade portuguesa enquanto sociedade multicultural, torna-se extremamente pertinente perceber quais os fatores que podem intervir nas relações entre os diversos grupos. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho pretende estudar os processos intergrupais, mais especificamente a relação entre o contacto e o preconceito. Foi utilizado um conjunto de escalas para a recolha dos dados de participantes de dois grupos identificados como brancos e negros (N = 100). As escalas visam analisar o preconceito implícito e explicito, as emoções face ao exogrupo, a frequência de contacto e proximidade física mantida tanto com o exo como o endogrupo. E os resultados obtidos corroboram aos existentes na literatura que confirma a preferência pelo contacto com endogrupo e a relação negativa entre o contacto com exogrupo e o preconceito, confirmando que quanto mais contacto existir entre os grupos menor será a tendência a atitudes negativas. Estes resultados são discutido com base na teoria do contacto de Allport.
Belonging to social groups reflects all aspects of our daily life, from the most basic to the most complex forms of intergroup relationship, whether in school, work or personal life, we all go through this process. With the diversification of groups there is also a diversification of norms, beliefs and values. Given the Portuguese reality as a multicultural society, it becomes extremely pertinent to understand what factors can intervene in the relations between the different groups. In this context, the present work intends to study the intergroup processes specifically, the relations between the intergroup contact and the prejudice. Data from Black and White participants (N = 100) were collected via a questionnaire. The questionnaire included scales to analyze the implicit and explicit prejudice, the emotions against the outgroup, the frequency of contact and physical proximity maintained with both the out and ingroup. In line with the existing literature, the results showed that the groups prefer have contact with the ingroup, and the existence of a negative relation between contact with the outgroup and prejudice, confirming that the more groups interacted less is the tendency to have negative attitudes. These results are discussed based on Allport´s contact theory.
