Este trabalho apresenta o processo de adaptação para a população portuguesa e os estudos psicométricos iniciais do Inventário de Relações na Fratria, que avalia o afeto e a hostilidade na relação fraternal. Participaram, neste estudo, 249 adultos emergentes, com idades compreendidas entre 18 e 30 anos, que responderam a um questionário de dados sociodemográficos, ao IRF, à Escala de Confiança Diádica, à subescala de Rivalidade do Questionário de Relações na Fratria e ao Inventário de Sintomas Psicopatológicos. Foram realizadas análises psicométricas para averiguar a validade e a fiabilidade do instrumento, nomeadamente: (a) validade de construto, através da análise fatorial exploratória e análise da validade convergente, (b) fiabilidade, através da análise da consistência interna e da correlação média interitens. Também foram testadas diferenças entre grupos, tendo em conta diversas variáveis da constelação fraternal. Da análise fatorial exploratória, realizada com 13 itens, resultou uma estrutura de dois fatores, com níveis adequados de consistência interna, e 12 itens. Em relação às diferenças entre as dimensões do IRF e as variáveis da constelação fraternal, os resultados obtidos indicaram que o sexo feminino e as fratrias femininas apresentam um nível mais elevado de afeto fraternal quando comparado com o sexo masculino e com as fratrias masculinas. O IRF pode constituir-se como um instrumento de avaliação da qualidade das relações fraternais.
This work presents the process of adaptation to the portuguese population and the initial psychometric studies of the Sibling Relationship Inventory, that evaluates the affection and the hostility in the sibling relationship. In this study, 249 emergent adults, aged between 18 and 30 years, answered a questionnaire on sociodemographic data, the SRI, the dyadic trust scale, the Rivalry subscale of the Sibling Relationship Questionnaire and the Brief Symptom Inventory. Psychometric analyzes were performed to verify the validity and reliability of the instrument, namely: (a) construct validity through an exploratory factor analysis and convergent validity analysis, (b) reliability, through the analysis of internal consistency and correlation mean between interitens. In addition, differences between groups were tested, considering several variables of the fraternal constellation. From the exploratory factorial analysis, carried out with 13 items, resulted in a structure of two factors, with adequate levels of internal consistency, and 12 items. Regarding the differences between the dimensions of the SRI and the variables of the fraternal constellation, the obtained results indicated that the females and the female siblings present a higher level of fraternal affection when compared with the males and the male siblings. The SRI can be an instrument for evaluating the quality of fraternal relationships.
