Una sola moltitudine

However, perhaps a complex system such as that defined by an alphabet may be, which lends itself to be used, fragmented, composed and re-aggregated always in a different way based on a city that requires not one, but a multitude of signs to trace its identity and compose your own language.

Una sola moltitudine, così venne intitolata una raccolta di scritti del portoghese Fernando Pessoa, adoperando una definizione che è un ossimoro e ben si addice a un progetto complesso come One of a type. Attraverso la costruzione di un alfabeto, e quindi con l’unicità di una famiglia di glifi e la molteplicità delle loro forme, viene disegnata l’identità visiva della città di Palermo, contemporanea e profondamente antica, desiderosa di futuro e stratificata nel tempo. Non è più bastevole un solo segno per comunicare l’identità della città e del territorio a cui si riferisce. Può però forse esserlo un sistema complesso come quello definito da un alfabeto, che si presta a essere adoperato, frammentato, composto e riaggregato sempre in modo differente sulla base di una città che richiede non uno, ma una moltitudine di segni per tracciare la propria identità e comporre il proprio linguaggio.
