Desenho científico e desenho para a infância, duas linguagens distintas, uma base comum : contributo para a divulgação do conhecimento científico

Abstract

Can scientific illustration be suitable for children? And can illustration for children be considered scientific illustration? These questions were in the basis of the theoretical reflection about the application of scientific illustration to children. This project wants to present the circumstances in which scientific illustration can be suitable for a younger audience. The methodology adopted was the “case-study”, and O Jardim Botânico O Chão das Artes – Casa da Cerca – Centro de Arte Contemporânea, in Almada, was chosen for this study, since it has the particularity that all the species it contains, namely their components, - such as rhizomes, roots, leaves, stems, petals, fruits, etc. - have practical applications in Fine Arts. For this purpose, several interviews were prepared and also a questionnaire focused on 180 Portuguese and foreign illustrators, working in both areas: illustration for children and scientific. The conclusions herein are the result of the study and reflection of the aforementioned questionnaires and interviews undertaken in this project
