pubs.rights-statement	Research background This research is in the field of quantum social change and climate change communications. The AdaptationCONNECTS research project, funded by the University of Oslo and the Research Council of Norway, focuses on the relationship between adaptation and transformations to sustainability and explores the contribution of creativity, collaboration, empowerment, and new narratives. It also investigates the potential for new paradigms or thought patterns to share the future, including those based on ideas drawn from quantum social change. The research engages with a growing recognition that to adapt successful to climate change, we need to adapt to the very idea that we are creating the future right now. The project leaders called for short stories that addressed these concerns. Research contribution My submitted short story was inspired by the quantum idea of entanglement – a sense that if we could become more aware of the ways that our lives are entangled with other lives and places, our collective values would start to shift. There is particle-wave duality in the story too; the characters and world are both dark and light, depending on the angle. Further, the story was an attempt to navigate the fine line between utopian and dystopian images of the future, demonstrating a more realistic vision of how the future might play out. Research significance Submitted stories were reviewed by a jury and nine stories were selected for inclusion in the published short story collection. This story was awarded first prize by the jury and is the opening story of the collection.	en_US
