The effects of detonations of high explosives are the focus of this report. Analyses are performed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element codes, theoretical formulations and empirical data. The effects of detonations of high explosives are characterized in terms of incident and reflected overpressures and impulses. Calculations are performed to verify and validate a CFD code in 1D and 2D; estimate blast effects using 1D models; predict incident overpressures and impulses; provide guidance on the use of reflecting and transmitting boundaries in 2D and 3D models, and provide recommendations on cell size for CFD analysis. The complex wave field in the Mach stem region is studied.
