Flux, Spectacle and the Vogue
Kokkuvõte
The Emajõgi project area is a somewhat outdated and loosely connected area in the
centre of Tartu. It has a lot of potential to play an important part in Tartu’s ambitions to
become an innovative and vibrant city, bearing in mind the upcoming year of Cultural
capital of Europe as well as the unpredictable global trends. The aim of this thesis is to
find out what sort of role the project area should play in this endeavour and to offer an
applicable design solution for it. This is achieved with the help of a thorough literature
analysis and an investigation about the connections between the city and the project area.
This thesis offers an answer to the problem in the form of a comprehensive concept plan
about the project area and a detailed design plan focused on the Market Hall quarter. As
a result a spacious, creative and social public space is created on the banks of Emajõgi in
the heart of Tartu. Emajõe projektala on iganenud välimuse ja ümbritseva linnaruumiga nõrgalt seotud
avalik ala Tartu kesklinnas. Seal leidub palju potentsiaali mängimaks olulist rolli Tartu
püüdlustes olla innovaatiline ja elav linn, mõeldes nii tuleva Euroopa kultuuripealinna
aasta peale kui ka üldistematele suundumustele maailmas. Käesoleva töö eesmärgiks on
mõtestada projektala roll nende nähtuste taustal ja pakkuda välja sellele kohane
kujunduslahendus.
kujundamiseks. Töö tulemusena on loodud Emajõe kallastele Tartu kesklinnas ruumikas,
loominguline ja ühiskondlik avalik ruum.
