Fecha de publicación: | 1-jul-2001 | Citación: | Boletín. Instituto Español de Oceanografía. 1996. 12 (1) | Resumen: | Forty-jour CTD stations were conducted out during the cruise Canarias 9205 of the R. V. Francisco de Paula Navarro. The present publication is based on the study of the geostrofic circulation and data on temperature, salinity and density obtained from these stations, from the sea surface to a depth of 500 m. In the western area of the region, where the stations are closer together, the geostrophic circulation shows a cyclonic eddy in the Tenerife-Gomera channel and another antyclonic to the South of these islands. The temperature and salinity distributions also show both eddies. In the middle of the cylonic eddy, the upwelled water comes from a depht of about 75 m. On the another hand, the temperature and salinity distributions show, between Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura islands, the end of a filament of upwelled water on the nearby African coast, that had a thick of about 50 m off Punta Jandía. |
