|
Home Movie Day (HMD), an event that involves the screening of old home movies of the residents in a local community, is held worldwide. This event allows the residents to share their memories with various generations and hand down the local legacy to younger generations. This event is held all over Japan and enables the residents to look back over the Showa Era and develop communication channels in the community. This study examines the Fukakusa Community Archives and Machiya Cinema projects compiled by the students of the Faculty of Policy Science at Ryukoku University. We collected and played 8 mm films with the cooperation of the residents and witnessed the joy of communication among different generations watching old movies on the local culture together. Based on this experience, we found that communication among different generations is necessary in a local society.
