Service design research for involving immigrants in urban community garden. How to involve Chinese immigrants in the community garden in Bovisasca under the context of the CampUS project

With the advent of the experience economy and the awareness of the right food attitude, more and more people have the desire of getting fresh and organic food by the means of creating community gardens around the neighborhood. However, in the context of migration, the city like Milan has a huge number of immigrants, while these groups of people do not participate in the local social activities such as the community garden activities. The thesis is aimed to discover the reasons and try to involve the immigrants through the theory and methodology of service system design. This thesis take Chinese immigrants as an entry point and try to explore the possibility of involving immigrants in the urban community garden project under the context of the campUS project in Bovisasca, Milan. CampUS project is a project that contains a series of activities which aims to develop the relationship between neighborhood with different activities. The thesis starts with the analysis of the living status and condition of general Chinese immigrants in Italy, and then go deep with the specific target that are living in zone 9 Milan. By interviewing and making questionnaires with them, the author divided the Chinese immigrants into working class group, kids & youth and the elderly. Based on the classification, the author tries to analysis the possibility of each group in participating and chooses one group as the starting point. Finally ,a service system which contains a plan of whole year farming activities as well as a yearly handbook are designed for kids aiming to building relationship between locals and immigrants in the scene of sharing culture of food and kitchen as well as collaborating in doing some work together to build better living environment.

Con l'avvento di un’economia legata all’esperienza e una maggior consapevolezza di attitudine al consumo di cibo sano, sempre più persone hanno il desiderio di avere accesso ad alimenti freschi e biologici, attraverso la creazione di orti comunitari intorno al quartiere. Tuttavia, in una città come Milano, caratterizzata da un forte contesto migratorio, questi gruppi di persone difficilmente partecipano alle attività sociali locali, come quella del giardino comunitario. Lo scopo di questa tesi è di scoprirne le ragioni e cercare di coinvolgere questi gruppi di immigrati, attraverso la teoria e la metodologia di progettazione del sistema di servizio. Questa tesi si rivolge principalmente agli immigrati cinesi come un punto di ingresso e prova a esplorare la possibilità di coinvolgerli nella partecipazione al progetto del giardino comunitario del Progetto Campus in Bovisasca, Milano. CampUS è un progetto del Politecnico di Milano che raccoglie diverse attività. Prova a lavorare insieme agli abitanti e alle associazioni del quartiere per rendere tutto questo possibile. La tesi parte dall'analisi sullo stato attuale e sulle condizione dei generali immigrati cinesi in Italia, e analizza poi in particolare, la situazione di coloro che vivono nella zona 9 di Milano. Intervistando e facendo questionari, l'autore divide gli immigrati cinesi in gruppi di lavoro, i bambini, i giovani e gli anziani. Sulla base di questa classificazione, l'autore cerca di analizzare le possibilità di partecipazione attiva di ciascun gruppo e sceglie una delle categorie come punto di partenza.
