Abstract: quotBiomaterials can be defined as inorganic or organic materials, which newlineare biocompatible and can be implanted in the human body to replace or newlinerepair failing tissue. In recent years, progress in the biomaterial area has newlinepaved the way for creating innovative materials to improve existing newlinetreatments and develop new ones for a higher quality of life. Even though newlinethere are many applications of biomaterials in medicine, main attention in the newlinepresent study was focused on wound dressing material. In the present study, newlinewound dressing materials were prepared suing fibrin, chitosan and sodium newlinealginate. newlineIn the first series of experiments a biological wound dressing was newlineprepared, in film form, using fibrin and chitosan (FC) employing PVP as newlineporogen. The films were characterized for their percentage equilibrium water newlinecontent (% EWC), water vapour transmission rate (WVTR), bacterial newlinepenetration, surface morphology and in vivo biodegradation using rats as newlineanimal models. The film prepared using fibrin 10ml (40% solids) and chitosan newlinesolution 5ml (4% in 0.3N acetic acid) has exhibited better results. The FC newlinefilms have shown excellent inhibition for bacterial penetration.quot newline newline
