Abstract: Prof. K. Rajayyan is a versatile personality, among the historians of India in newlinegeneral and South India in particular. His zeal as a teacher creating an organization newlinecalled the South Indian History Congress, an association of Archaeologists, newlineHistorians, Archivists, Numismatists, Epigraphists, Anthropologists, Historiographists newlineand young researchers who are committed for qualitative historical writings. He newlinecreated a platform for a forum of professional historians and archaeologists throw newlinelight on many aspects of South Indian History which was neglected and marginalized newlinewhen compared with North Indian History. He served as a lecture in History, Prof. K. newlineRajayyan rose to the position of Chief Professor of History at the prestigious newlinePresidency College, Chennai. As Professor and Head of the Department of History at newlineMadurai Kamaraj University, his work is remarkable, for he gave a new lease of life newlineto the subject of History in South of India. As a visiting Professor, he shared his newlineexperiences at many South Indian Universities. newlineProf. Rajayyan highlighted that the freedom struggle against the British began newlinein South India as early as in 1800-1801 as highlighted his book South Indian newlineRebellion 1800-1801. His other important works namely, Treachery and Terror newlineagainst the Indian Tribes of USA, Tamil Nadu A Real History, History in Theory and newlineMethod which reveal his specialization in varied aspects of history beyond the newlinetraditional frontiers. Prof. K. Rajayyan was the founder General Secretary of South newlineIndian History Congress in 1979. Under his able supervision, more than thirty newlineScholars received their Ph.D degrees and more than 150 Scholars received M.Phil newlinedegrees in history. He spent his valuable time for successful accomplishment of more newlinethan twenty research projects. He wrote twenty books in History in English and five newlinebooks in Tamil and also more than seventy five research papers all published in newlinereputed journals and magazines.
